Bokeh (derived from Japanese, a noun boke 暈け, meaning “blur” or “haze”) is a photographic term referring to the æsthetic quality of point-of-light sources in an out-of-focus area of an image produced by a camera lens using a shallow depth of field.[1] Essentially, bokeh is a qualitative measure of light distortion in the out-of-focus areas of an image, and is primarily caused by lens aberrations and aperture shape. I love bokeh (in afterthought there may have been too much bokeh here but really I don’t mind)! I also love my 50mm f/1.8 Nikon lens. It’s not an autofocus so it takes some practice to get the depth of field spot on. When I use that lens I always shoot with the dial in Aperature mode so that the chip controls the shutter and I control the depth of field or aprature. I don’t get to use this lens a lot but arts and crafts time is the perfect time. I bought it really as an indoor lens that I could use without having to fire a flash all the time. But hey what do I know? Our theme this week was the Ocean, next week is Space – maybe I’ll get some pictures of a rocket lift-off for everyone! Till then….
